FIDH to host opening ceremony for 39th congress
BRAAMFONTEIN – FIDH to host human rights activists at opening ceremony ahead of congress.
The International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) will kick off its 39th congress with an opening ceremony at Constitutional Hill.
The ceremony will take place on 23 August from 9am to 12pm noon and will feature 400 human rights defenders and notable human rights leaders including former Deputy Chief Justice, Dikgang Moseneke, Judge and former Deputy Chief Justice, Jestina Mukoko and an address from Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The opening ceremony will be followed by a public forum entitled Fighting back for Human Rights, taking place at the Protea Hotel Parktonian in Braamfontein from 23 to 24 August.
The congress will run until 27 August, also in Johannesburg at the same venue.
The FIDH congress, which takes place every three years, is organised by FIDH, together with its member organisations, Lawyers for Human Rights, Ditshwanelo of the Botswana Centre for Human Rights and Zimrights.
