Two suspected robbers have been taken out of circulation due to Metro police’s swift response.
On 29 November at around 5.30pm a motorist was driving along Jan Smuts Avenue towards Lancaster Avenue in Craighall Park. “It is alleged that two males approached the complainant. The first guy knocked at the window and he was talking but the complainant could not hear what he was saying,” explained Captain Tintswalo Sibeko communications officer for Parkview Police Station.

“The complainant was focusing on the road and the suspect knocked on the window again. It is alleged that the suspect lifted his shirt up and the complainant saw a black hand gun.” She added that it was when the complainant saw the gun, that he started hooting and the two suspects walked away.
“He drove away and after two robots he saw a Metro police car and stopped his vehicle and informed them about the incident. The Metro police together with the complainant drove back to the scene of the crime and [he] pointed out the suspects,” said Sibeko.

The suspects tried to run away but the Metro police officers managed to apprehend both suspects and took them to Parkview Police Station. They are currently in police custody.
According to posts on Facebook,two males were arrested a few months ago for terrorising motorists. Sibeko said that it cannot be confirmed whether they are the same suspects as an investigation still need to take place.
Both suspects will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon to answer the charges of attempted robbery with a firearm.
