A shareholder of a garage in Norwood was arrested after police officers allegedly found drugs worth R10 000 in an office on the premises on 22 November.
Spokesperson for Norwood Police Station, Elliot Tshivhase said the suspect was arrested after organised crime police officers, through a tip-off, conducted a search of the premises. “Drugs were [allegedly] recovered under the table and 10 live [rounds of] ammunition,” said Tshivhase.
He added that the 52-year-old was detained at Norwood Police Station and then taken to Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court for prosecution and received R15 000 bail.
According to the suspect’s lawyer, Howard Woolf, his client is a minority shareholder of the business which manages the garage and the office to which reference is made is not his client’s office but a storeroom or office utilised by many individuals.
“My client’s office is located in an alternate structure, not on the premises of the garage,” he said.
Woolf also added that the suspect was not obstructive but cooperated with the police and voluntarily allowed them to conduct the search. “My client is unaware of the identity of the substance subsequently located by the police,” explained Woolf.
