Broken security fence in Norwood raises concerns
NORWOOD – Broken fence allows anyone to enter and leave as they please.
A Norwood resident, who would like to remain anonymous, is worried about a security fence which is situated on Fanny and Cecile road, opposite Grant Avenue.
The fence was erected a while ago and worked as a security measure to prevent pedestrians from entering the suburb. In the last few days, however, the barbed wire between the fence and the wall has been removed, and anyone can come and go as they please. The resident said, “The wire in the fence had been taken out and the barbed wire needs to be replaced.
“It is worrying, as I notice people coming through the fence in the early morning, the area is poorly lit, so all I can see are shadows and these people are sneaking in with no good purpose. I don’t want to have to live in fear that something terrible could happen.”

It is said that about 30 people walk in and out of this gap, daily. The resident added, “If I had access to barbed wire, I would do it myself.”
The North Eastern Tribune contacted Community Active Protection (CAP) and they said they will keep a lookout for any criminal activity in the area. Brett McDougall, chairman of the Norwood/Orchids Residents Association added, “The fence was more than likely put up by a resident and, therefore, needs to be fixed by a resident. This is not the council’s responsibility. Having said that, we are aware and CAP is patrolling the area.”
