Suspect arrested for hair salon robbery

JOBURG – Suspect allegedly identified by a victim who recognised him because he was said to be wearing the same clothes as on the day of the robbery.

A 32-year-old man who was allegedly part of a duo who robbed a beauty salon on the corner of Von Wielligh and Albert streets has been arrested by Joburg Central police.

“It is alleged that two suspects robbed the salon on 17 February at 7pm,” said Xoli Mbele, spokesperson for the Joburg Central Police Station.

“A female [worker] was busy with customers when two males entered the salon. They closed the sliding door and one of them pulled out a firearm.”

They robbed the salon of an undisclosed amount of money and took customers’ cellphones before fleeing, Mbele said.

One of the victims was able to identify the suspect the next day, apparently because he was wearing the same clothes. His accomplice is still at large.
