Strong intuition from Norwood police officers leads to arrest of two men with counterfeit US dollars.

ROUXVILLE – Two men arrested with counterfeit US dollars.

Two men were arrested on 17 February at 2pm on the corner of Viljoen and Main streets in Rouxville for possession of counterfeit US dollars, and have appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court.

Warrant Officer Johns Mokoena and Constable Raymond Baleyi of the Norwood Police Station were patrolling in the area. They alleged that they spotted an old grey Hyundai with the registration LKC954GP, with two occupants.

They stopped the vehicle and, upon searching it, the police officers found bundles of counterfeit US dollars wrapped in plastic bags. Of the bags, 39 contained bundles of notes with a printed serial number of Kb462790; and four with the serial number Kb100229 779.

Hanson Makhabe and Peter Nyalungo could not explain why they were in possession of counterfeit US dollars and were arrested on the scene.

The case continues.
