Suspect arrested for theft

JOBURG – An arrested suspect was allegedly one of three men who broke into a vehicle and stole boxes containing tools and alarm systems.

A 28-year-old male was arrested for theft out of a motor vehicle and malicious damage to property by Joburg Central police at the corner of Lilian Ngoyi and Delvers streets at about 1pm on 21 February.

Joburg Central spokesperson Xoli Mbele said, “A vehicle belonging to a 30-year-old male was allegedly broken into by at least three male suspects. The suspects opened the vehicle canopy while the vehicle was stationary.”

The suspects allegedly stole three boxes, however, two boxes containing tools were recovered a short while later. One suspect was arrested by a community patroller in the area and handed over to police.

“One suspect has been arrested and is due to appear in the Joburg Magistrates’ Court soon, while an investigation into the incident is ongoing. Two suspects are still at large with a box containing alarm systems,” Mbele said.
