Effingham Heights to Savoy Estate, Jaysh Sunker needs your vote to become the next Mrs SA
SAVOY ESTATE – Mrs SA semifinalist needs your votes
Jaysh Sunker is one of the semifinalists in the prestigious Mrs South Africa pageant and she needs your vote to lift the crown.
Coming from humble beginnings on the coast, Sunker said even thinking of entering the pageant was a huge step for her.
She was born in Durban and grew up in Effingham Heights, and even though her parents did not have much, Sunker said they gave her the best that they could afford.
She she matriculated in 1998 but because of life challenges she could not afford a tertiary education. “I then moved up to Gauteng at the tender age of 19 in the year 2000, with just a suitcase and nothing to my name.
“Within a few weeks I found myself a temporary job and from there on I worked and studied project management part-time and worked really hard to get where I am today,” she said.
“I can honestly say I have graduated in a degree of ‘University of Life’, as life was hard – I learnt something new every day with no one to teach me,” said a 36-year-old who now lives in Savoy Estate, Johannesburg.
Sunker has been married her husband, Satish for over 11 years and they have two children between the ages of five and 10.
She currently works as a senior development manager at Nedbank Group Technology and said she loves meeting new people and getting to know who they are as individuals and what she can learn from them.
Sunker entered the Mrs SA competition in January and all the semifinalists were notified on 2 March.
She said entering the pageant allowed her to step out of her comfort zone to try out new things. “As a semifinalist, I have been inspired, empowered and most of all, I gained self-confidence.
“A two-day intense workshop was held for the top 100 semi-finalists from all over the country from 4 to 5 March where we were introduced to the hard work that lies ahead in this journey – Mrs SA is more of a women empowerment programme than a beauty pageant.
“The pageant has helped me to achieve a new self-confidence as well as gain personal growth, which will enable me to use this platform to make a difference in my community.”
Sunker said the pageant offers married South African women who have real-life careers, families, and hobbies the chance to compete for the prestigious title.
Glamour and sophistication, according to Sunker, are part of the criteria, but the women who enter the pageant are smart and ambitious and care about their families and communities.
Being a semifinalist has taught her to remain humble, to be true to herself and to be comfortable in her own skin. “It has taught me the importance of being authentic, being brave to be me and to become the best version of myself,” concluded Sunker.
