Executive mayors address service delivery issues in Houghton
HOUGHTON – Mashaba, in particular, was inundated with questions by Ward 73 residents.
Democratic Alliance (DA) executive mayors from the cities of Joburg and Tshwane, Herman Mashaba and Solly Msimanga, visited Ward 73 in Houghton to address service delivery issues in the area.
The meeting was held at Houghton Primary School on 22 March and it was earmarked to introduce the DA’s candidate, Eleanor Huggett, expected to contest the upcoming by-elections which will be held on 4 and 5 April.
The meeting was also attended by DA provincial leader John Moodey, regional chairperson Khume Rhamilifo, the Sisonke Constituency political head Mervyn Cirota and its chairperson councillor Martin Louw. The Sisonke Constituency is a political structure formed by the DA in the area.

Also attending were MMCs Michael Sun, Funzi Ngobeni, Nico de Jager, Member of Parliament Ian Ollis and numerous other councillors from different wards.
The meeting also gave both the mayors an opportunity to address residents since the DA took over their administration following the 3 August local government elections.
The issues raised during the meeting were primarily about service delivery regarding roads, traffic lights, billing, grass cutting, crime, flooding, densification and development plans.
According to Huggett, the two mayors addressed various issues. The list of issues included amongst others Pikitup, Joburg Roads Agency, Cydna (an area between Linksfield and Sandringham), Paterson Park, potholes, drugs, illegal shebeens, spaza shops and churches.
“Also, the issue of Louis Botha Avenue projects like Reya Vaya and the Corridors of Freedom, upgrading of Grant Avenue, social issues, vagrants and littering formed part of the agenda,” said Huggett.
“Mashaba particularly was inundated with questions, congratulations and thanks. Everyone was treated with the utmost attention, warmth and respect by the mayor.”
