Norwood crime blitz sees 43 arrests in one week

NORWOOD – Police say more arrests will be made following a crime blitz in Norwood.

Norwood police officers arrested a total of 43 suspects for crimes ranging from dealing in liquor to possession of dagga.

According to the spokesperson for Norwood Police Station, Elliot Tshivhase, the arrests were made between 26 and 31 March.

The arrests are as follows:

  • 2 illegal immigrants
  • 3 for business robbery
  • 1 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 15 for drunken driving
  • 1 for assault common
  • 2 for shoplifting
  • 2 for theft
  • 2 for common assault
  • 1 for trespassing
  • 2 warrants of detention
  • 2 for possession of unlicensed firearms.

Tshivhase said the suspects appeared in court while others paid bail.

“Police will continue to arrest those caught on the wrong side of the law. Investigations on those who were arrested still continues,” Tshivhase concluded.
