Gressworld Park is earmarked for major re-development.
Councillor Dave Fisher of Ward 74 is inviting residents to a public meeting on Wednesday 19 April at the Gresswold Park on Hathaway Road, Gresswold at 5pm.
The meeting will be held to discuss future plans for the Gresswold and Weinberg family parks in Savoy, which are due for upgrades as part of the Louis Botha Avenue transport initiative.
Fisher said they would like to receive input from the community about how they wish to see the parks being upgraded.
“The upgrades are part of the Corridors of Freedom initiative, which includes the Bus Rapid Transport transport system that links Sandton, Alex and the City Centre.
Weinberg Family Parks in Savoy will get a new look.
“The landscape architect will be at the meeting to present the proposal and debate suggestions. Senior officials from Joburg City Parks and Zoo will also be there to receive the suggestions and to take them back to be worked into the plan and budget,” said Fisher.
In Gresswold Park, there will be a major redevelopment with some exciting new features such as an all-purpose court or field for soccer and netball. The Weinberg Park will remain an informal park with upgraded facilities. No major design changes are envisaged.
Details of the budget are not yet available but, according to Fisher, it is a substantial amount of money and should add great value to the urban environment in the area.
