An Eastern Cape native has come to Joburg to make it big.
Dingalethu Maphithela (25), known to his fans as Dinga, has put his poverty-stricken childhood behind him and set his sights on a music career, as well as the title of Mr South Africa.
“I grew up just like any other kid from the rural areas but was very special because of my love and passion for art and music,” said Maphithela.
“Growing up surrounded by poverty and a seeming lack of opportunities, that’s where I spent my early life dreaming about what I wanted to become. Hence I nurtured my skills over the years and went on to study drama and film at the Durban University of Technology.”
Now, the multi-talented young man is pursuing a life as an entertainer, honing his skills as an actor, singer, model and writer.
Detailing what it is that inspires him to write music, he said, “As a young writer and Afro-pop singer I’m very inspired by love, my everyday experiences and people’s everyday stories.”
“I started writing [music] a long time ago, but I wanted to learn more about the craft and improve my writing skills before I could start recording my music and I understand the importance of quality and creativity.
“I therefore always take responsibility for my own growth, striving to be outstanding rather than mediocre and I do that with dedication, enthusiasm and commitment, grasping all opportunities available to me.”
With that in mind, he approached the South African Music Rights Organisation (Samro) to assist him with the production of a new song titled IIntaka Zothando, meaning love birds.
“I have so much respect for my craft and so far my work is and will be evident,” he concluded.
In addition, he will be running for the title of Mr South Africa 2017 and is looking for the support of the public.
