‘Rocking purple for Lupus’ raises support for National Lupus Day
ROSEBANK – The Arthritis Foundation, Lupus Foundation and Rainbow Line Dancing group take part in a flash mob to raise support for World Lupus Day.
The Rockin’ Purple for Lupus line dance flash mob took place on Saturday, 6th May ahead of National Lupus Day on the 10th May 2017.
Fifty line dancers from Rainbow Line Dancers took to the park at The Zone@Rosebank and wowed unsuspecting shoppers with their demonstration of line dancing.
The event was hosted by Leon Nel, owner of Rainbow Line Dancing, together with the Arthritis Foundation South Africa and the Lupus Foundation South Africa, in support of lupus awareness and all those affected by the chronic auto-immune disease.
All 50 dancers donned purple branded T-shirts and sparkly purple box cutter hats and entertained the public, their friends and family to a foot stomping, feet tapping display of line dancing.
Nel invited members of the public to try a few steps of line dancing with the dancers and a few brave ladies in the crowd strutted their moves. Rockin’ Purple for Lupus fun in the park was sponsored by the management of The Zone@ Rosebank and supported by Nadine Lewis and Brenda Spence of the Arthritis Foundation South Africa, as well as Sibongile Komati, founder of the Lupus Foundation South Africa.

The dance routines were performed by Nel and his group of dancers. Members of the public, the dancers, their friends and family performed to songs played by DJ Charlie.
Benard Van Jaarsveld and Devon McAlpine photographed and recorded the event and managed to capture the very essence of what Rockin’ Purple for Lupus was all about, highlighting the magic of dance and music, and the unity and spontaneity of all South Africans.
Many people worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the Rockin Purple for Lupus flash mob a success and generously gave time, sponsorships and support for the cause.
