Norwood residents to commemorate 16 June in style

NORWOOD – The event is geared at remembering the fallen on June 16, 1976.

A variety of activities are planned for the residents of Norwood to commemorate the annual 16 June Youth Day public holiday where the youth are expected to participate.

Organised by 7324 Women’s Business Forum, this event will be held at the grounds opposite the Norwood Police Station.

According to organiser, Sharon Mtshali, the idea is to enable the youth in our community a great opportunity to honour the fallen heroes and heroines as well as the stalwarts of the 1976 generation.

Young and old people are invited and Mtshali promises they will have fun-filled activities, information-sharing sessions and a great networking platform.

“The essence is to get people, especially the youth, to participate because we have various platforms that will guide them into making right career choices. We want to provide them with adequate information on available opportunities within the ward and even offer motivational talks about their social challenges,” said Mtshali.

She added that they will also have sports activities to infuse fun and healthy living as well as talks about the commemoration of our history.

“This is our way of remembering the generation of 1976 who fought for us to live in prosperity and democracy and we want to do so by bringing the community together and sharing in the celebrations.”

This is a significant moment for the country and Mtshali said they want to celebrate it by empowering the youth with knowledge that will benefit them in future.

“We want to help them make the right decisions in life rather than leave them to waste their lives making wrong decisions that can ruin their future. We have educational platforms on various industries of our economy, great speakers to talk about available opportunities and a great networking platform for those who aspire to further their lives.”
