Fire breaks out on Jan Smuts Avenue in Hyde Park following gas leak

HYDE PARK – Gas leak and welding leads to fire.

 

A fire broke out at the intersection of Jan Smuts Avenue and Albany Road on the evening of 24 July following a gas leak. The fire broke out when a gas leak was caught alight however the blaze was quickly contained at the scene.

Managing director of Egoli Gas, Monde Tyusha confirmed that a fire occurred where Egoli Gas personnel were working but said the fire was quickly contained.

“There were no serious injuries sustained and indications are that there was no negligence on the part of our personnel. A full investigation is underway, therefore no details can be provided yet,” said Tyusha.

Robert Mulaudzi from Johannesburg Emergency Services said emergency services had not been called to the scene.
