Bramley View protests erupt once again over new shacks
BRAMLEY VIEW – The Bramley View residents began protesting against the erection of shacks near their homes on 7 August.
Following weeks of anger surrounding the erection of shacks, the residents of Bramley View situated next to the settlement began protesting in the early morning on 7 August.
Spokesperson for Metro police, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed that the residents began protesting on Lyndhurst Road in Bramley View. He said Metro police closed the road and attempted to subdue the protesting residents.
Minnaar said the roads have been reopened.

The shacks were erected at the end of last year to house displaced people who were removed by the City of Johannesburg from Wynberg.
Ward 81 councillor Irene Rugheimer said the shacks have been on the land for many years, but the addition of the newer shacks brought the numbers from 69 to 114. These additions have angered local residents who have claimed that the shacks have devalued their properties.
Rugheimer added that the residents were waiting for a response from City of Johannesburg regarding their demands to have the shacks removed.
