The National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies raided an Internet café in Johannesburg on 23 August that was allegedly producing fake vehicle licence discs.

Three people were arrested and more arrests are expected to follow. Authorities seized fake bank statements and pay slips that are suspected to be used to access credit illegally. Upon searching the premises a scanner and computer believed to have been used to produce fraudulent vehicle discs were found.

“We warn all those engaged in the distribution of fake licence discs to submit and cooperate with the law enforcement authorities,” said Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) spokesperson Simon Zwane

“The raids are part of reducing corruption and the number of unroadworthy vehicles on our roads as a result of unlawful operations and ultimately improving safety on the roads.”
