Deansgate will occupy its new property soon

CRAIGHALL PARK – Retirement village braces for the move into new residence. The new residence is bigger but set to offer residents more in the way of comfort.

Deansgate in Craighall Park prides itself on being a retirement village that really cares for the elderly. It is for this very reason that the acquisition of a new property – situated next to Delta Park in Craighall Park – was on the cards.

According to management, the new 2 000 square meter property is bigger and will be able to accommodate more than the present 110 retirees.

Sandra Cadle, general manager and medical director at the retirement village, said renovations on the new property will start in September and will be completed in April next year.

Cadle said the idea behind moving from their present residence to a slightly bigger property one house away, first came to light six years ago. In 2011 the decision was made that Deansgate needed a revamp. “With a push from some new management [we] decided to buy a property,” she said.

“There were some hair raising moments at that time. Not knowing if we could fill the beds or sell the cottages made everyone a little uneasy. [We had] a few sleepless nights.” Cadle explained that soon after this they had an influx of people who wanted accommodation.

“All our fears were turned away. Deansgate was never the same from that point. We exploded from an old ‘old age home’ to a new retirement village. We managed to purchase two additional properties and built an entire Alzheimer’s care centre.

“The last two years have proven to be a twilight period for the home with everyone adapting to a more quiet environment, said Cadle. “But we knew this wouldn’t last as we had bought the new property which we take ownership of in September. So we will have to get used to the mess and noise again.”
