Businesses urged to boost CJC Alex campus

ALEXANDRA – Businesses can fund new courses that will equip their staff to provide better services

Ward 81 councillor, Irene Rugheimer, paid a courtesy visit to the Central Johannesburg College (CJC) Alexandra Campus on 22 August to check up on its needs.

Following the visit, Rugheimer told the North Eastern Tribune that even though the college is well managed, much still needed to be done. The councillor cited a lack of support from local businesses as one of the major challenges for the college.

The college provides technical and vocational education and training (TVET) services and Rugheimer said they have programmes and courses that can benefit the community and businesses. She called on local businesses to adopt the college and utilise it to equip their staff with the relevant theory that will link them with the services the business provides.

They can also finance new courses or programmes that will be useful to them and their staff. She said, “We have a lot of businesses that can financially support the college and enable their staff to come and study here and advance their skills.

“They can link their services with the theory that CJC is providing to give them adequate skills in the workplace.” Rugheimer said they can also provide internships to CJC students to give them work experience and, ultimately, employ them.

She promised to visit various local businesses to try and convince them to buy into the idea, either by making donations, financially supporting them or any other way that will boost the college.

The councillor also encouraged the community to utilise the college by registering for courses to give skills and knowledge. “They can come and study and upgrade their qualifications to gain more knowledge, which will be an advantage to them when they seek employment.”

The councillor met with Gladwin Matsila, CJC Alex Campus manager who did not want to comment due to internal protocol.
