Norwood women’s forum celebrate Heritage Day significantly
NORWOOD – People from different backgrounds get together to embrace their diverse cultures.
The 7324 Business Women’s Forum in Norwood held their Heritage Day at the Norwood Park on 23 September and the community at large attended.
Various cultural groups took time out to commemorate this day significantly by showcasing their diverse cultures.
The forum’s event organiser and public relations officer, Sharon Mtshali said they marked their day in a momentous way with people from different cultural backgrounds. According to her, there were people from different South African cultural backgrounds as well as others outside the borders of the country.
She cited the Zulu, Batswana, Basotho and Xhosa, as well as the Zimbabweans, Nigerians and the Zambians who embraced the occasion last Saturday.
“Heritage Day was well celebrated all around the world and 7324 Business Women’s Forum went the extra mile to celebrate this day,” said Mtshali.
“We used this day as a reminder of our national and continental diversity and we also gave ourselves a chance to express our national unity in the country and outside our borders. We had guests from different places and also the community joined us in the festivities of the day.”
The Curious Young Girls, a cultural group from the Norwood Police Barracks provided the entertainment for guests at the park.
In attendance were Ward 73 councillor, Eleanor Huggett and the forum’s chairperson, Venitta Masisi.
People were served a variety of cuisine which was prepared for the different cultural groups. The food was served also to the needy in the community.
Masisi thanked everyone who was part of the event, adding that the success was because of them.
“We are proud to live in a country where unity is key and we look forward to celebrating more special days in this community,” she said.
