Disaster waiting to happen
GLENHAZEL – Residents complain that they report services to the authorities but nothing is being done about their problem.
Residents of Mervin Road in Glenhazel are complaining about a leaning electricity pole that poses a serious danger to the community.
Resident, Mervyn Klotz, told North Eastern Tribune that they have reported the issue to their councillor, Steven Kruger, but nothing had been done.
According to Klotz, they have also reported this to City Power.

“This was first reported to City Power approximately three months ago and we also reported it to Kruger but nothing is being done,” said Klotz.
“Despite numerous calls to City Power and numerous reference numbers, nothing has been done to rectify this highly dangerous situation. I have tried calling the maintenance department of City Power and all they do is pick up the phone and drop it – you do not even get to speak to anyone.”
The pole is situated adjacent to a park where children and adults frequent. “This is a disaster waiting to happen,” he added.
When contacted on 2 October, Kruger confirmed he was aware of the situation and had taken it up with the relevant department in the City.
“I have reported this to the highest office, including City Power and Member of the Mayoral Council for Infrastructure and Services,” said Kruger.
He promised to follow this through until the pole had been fixed.

A spokesperson for City Power, Virgil James, when contacted, requested a reference number and promised to attend to the matter.
“I will forward this to the relevant department and we will send our technicians to take a look at the pole,” said James.
