Show you care this festive season
JOBURG – Nelson Borman Attorneys is partnering with Green Planet Plumbing to collect 3 000 care packages.
Nelson Borman Attorneys and Green Planet Plumbing are working on an initiative to provide care packages to those in need.
They are hoping to contribute 3 000 care packages to the elderly, children and animals.
Danielle Houseman, who has been heading up the project, said that they were struggling to get people involved in the initiative.
The goal is for community members to use shoe boxes and fill them with essential items such as toiletries and sweets for the elderly, toys and clothing for children, and food and blankets for animals. The gender and age groups of the children and elderly will be provided in order to compile a care package that will suit their needs.
Some suggestions of what to include in the boxes include toothpaste, shampoo, biscuits and facecloths for the elderly; and clothing, educational supplies and a toy for the children. Food, blankets and toys can be included in the care packs for animals.
Houseman said, “I got involved with this cause because I decided I needed to help and do something that would be constructive. The care boxes are something that people know about and it’s very simple to put together.”
Houseman also added that the boxes only require a few items so they aren’t too expensive to put together. Houseman would ideally like to have a thousand boxes for each category, however, they’ve currently only received about 200 boxes.
The beneficiaries this year will be Frederick Place Old Age Home, Greek Old Age Home, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital’s children’s ward and patients at the Colorectal Unit, Frida Hartley Women’s Shelter, Wendywood School and Diepsloot Animal Care centre.
Houseman said that in previous years they had received tremendous support from communities who provided care boxes for various organisations.
“It is a little bit daunting because we would like to get as many boxes as possible and in previous years it was such a success.”
