#ICYMI: Attention Savoy residents: please keep our suburb tidy
SAVOY – Volunteering your time will help ensure that Joburg east suburbs are kept clean.
As part of Executive Mayor of Joburg, Herman Mashaba’s A Re Sebetseng campaign, Savoy residents are expected to embark on a monthly clean-up campaign to keep their suburb tidy.
To ensure its success, residents are invited to volunteer their time and energy and help out in cleaning various identified locations.
Local resident Steve Keightley-Smith has called on other residents and local businesses to participate. “It is in the best interest of their environment. The campaign will take place on the last Saturday of every month between 8am and 12 noon.”
City Parks has made a number of plastic rubbish bags available.
“The plan is to clean up rubbish, prune some of the trees and bushes. We are also looking at cleaning out the drains and weeds growing on the side of the road and cut down alien invader plants as well as trees.
“We will then stack the rubbish bags on the corner of Scott Street and Clyde Street so City Parks can collect them.”
Volunteers interested in participating can join the campaign on 25 November.
