#ICYMI: Left in the dark

OAKLANDS – A power outage has left residents in Orchards, The Gardens and surrounding areas in darkness.

The residents of The Gardens, Orchards and Orange Grove experienced a severe power outage following a series of problems with the Oaklands substation on 29 November.

A few residents claimed that their power has been out since 2am this morning, while others said their power has been off for a longer period of time.

Ward 74 councillor David Fisher said the problems at the substation began after the storm on 27 November.  Fisher said, “There was a power trip a the station during the storm. Once that was rectified the team found that a cable burnt out and needed to be replaced, and after that they found out that the transformers at the substation had given in.”

He said that City Power is currently setting up backup generators in the area.

“Ward 73 councillor Eleanor Huggett and I are well aware of the problems. We would like to thank the residents for their patience and empathize with them dearly.”

The North Eastern Tribune have contacted City Power, who have not yet released a statement regarding the issue.

Updates to follow.
