Year-end message from Bramley CPF

BRAMLEY – Bramley CPF leader shares a special year-end message.

Interim chairperson of the Bramley community policing forum (CPF), Harvey Phalatse, sent a special year-end message to the community and law enforcement officers for their tireless efforts in reducing crime in their precinct.

Phalatse writes:

The levels of crime – even those crimes that show decreases – can never be accepted in an active and involved community yearning for 24-hour safety and security.

Whilst 2017 was a somewhat difficult year, as we experienced an increase in criminal activities in the different sectors, I was particularly encouraged by the level of active participation by our residents who partnered with the police and security companies to ensure that we deal with this challenge head-on. We also made community patrollers available to ensure safer street, especially at night.

I am therefore encouraged by the active participation of all relevant stakeholders and residents within the Bramley policing precinct for their valuable contributions towards the awareness campaigns, numerous CPF meetings and consultative sessions, crime prevention initiatives and service delivery during 2017.

I want to particularly thank my colleagues on the Community Policing Forum Executive Committee, sector forums, the station commander of Bramley police, Col. Owen King, and the entire team, both the uniformed police and support staff at the local police station, community patrollers, security companies and all our residents for ensuring that 2017 was indeed a productive year.

I also wish to thank those City of Johannesburg councillors who serve on our CPF executive for their continued support in ensuring that council-related issues raised by our residents are escalated within the municipality. This collaboration highlights the fact that by working together as police and civil society, we continue to make an impact and [also] contribute towards a decrease in crime within the Bramley policing precinct.

Working together, we have been very successful in bringing the perpetrators of crimes to book and there is a need for sustained exposure of these success stories.

I would also like to give special thanks to the local media for the role they have played throughout the year as our strategic partner in providing an important communication platform by reporting crimes that were committed, doing follow-ups and also publishing police success stories in their fight against crime.

Proactive measures need to be in place in order to ensure that everyone enjoys a crime-free festive season. The fight against crime is everyone’s responsibility and I appeal to the community within the Bramley policing precinct to join hands with us. Together we can enjoy a crime-free festive season.

Let me take this opportunity to wish everyone within our policing precinct a restful festive period and to look forward to 2018 with the assurance that all of us will continue to be true beacons of hope in fighting crime to ensure a safer Bramley precinct.
