Hawks take over Minister Dlodlo’s burglary case
Norwood – The alleged suspect managed to bypass security and stole valuables worth over R20 000 from the minister's house.
The case of burglary at the home of Minister of the Department of Home Affairs, Ayanda Dlodlo, in the Joburg east suburbs, has been handed to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, the Hawks, for further investigation.
This was confirmed by the Gauteng provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Lungelo Dlamini in a telephone conversation with the North Eastern Tribune.
An unknown man entered the premises in Norwood and allegedly stole items worth about R20 000 from the main house’s cottage, used by Dlodlo’s daughter.
The suspect, however, did not get away with the valuables after one of the security guards at the house spotted him.
Apparently he ran away leaving the stolen items on the ground when they noticed him, according to the police. Items including jewellery, an iPad, watches and other valuables were recovered on the ground.
A case of housebreaking was reported at the Norwood Police Station but later transferred to the Gauteng police headquarters.
Dlamini, when asked about the latest developments in the case, told the Tribune that the case is no longer part of their investigation.
“The case has been transferred to the Hawks and they are the ones who are investigating the matter now,” said Dlamini, referring all queries to the Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi.
When contacted on 7 December, Mulaudzi’s colleague, Tebogo Monyemoratho, said he is attending a meeting and she promised to pass on the message to him but no contact had been made at the time of going to print.
Details: Hawks 012 846 4590.
