JOBURG - Local councillor resigns from council.

Joburg East Ward 72 councillor, Steven Kruger has resigned due to deteriorating health.

“I’ve communicated to the party and the City. Definitely, they did not want me to resign,” said Kruger.

“My back problem started early last year and has been deteriorating.”

The councillor said it has been very difficult for him to sit through meetings and his back pain has made him very tired.

“To the residents in my ward, I appreciate working with you and wish you well. It has been a great honour to serve the community as councillor. Unfortunately due to health issues it has become increasingly difficult for me to react as fast as I did previously, so I have decided to step down.”

According to Kruger, there might be a by-election in March to elect a new councillor for Ward 72. “I will still try to assist when I can.”
