A Christmas message from the Joburg East cluster police
Joburg – Holiday makers need to ensure that they have someone left to look after their houses while they're away.
The Joburg East cluster police wish all residents in the Joburg east suburbs prosperous festive season holidays and encourage them to enjoy the holidays responsibly.
In the statement issued on 7 November, the law enforcement agency said they will be pulling out all the stops to ensure your safety during this season.

A spokesperson for the cluster, Captain Richard Munyayi said the police in the Joburg East region are ready to serve the community to ensure they enjoy their festive season in peace and harmony.
“As the festive season is fast approaching, the Joburg East cluster police officers will be on full force hitting the ground doing their mandate of preventing crime as it is our primary function,” said Munyayi.
“We will make sure that people living and working in and around our police precinct will be safe. And those who will be doing business and shopping for their families will do so peacefully knowing that they are safe.”
He said they will be able to see police officers all over, carrying out their crime prevention duties, as they will be deployed outside in all sectors.

While the police will be busy concentrating on their duties, Munyayi said they would also like to pass a Christmas message to the community to enjoy the festivities but they should do so responsibly.
He advises people not to:
- Drink and drive
- Drink and walk the streets
- Carry large amounts of cash with them.
“Those who are going away for holidays should make sure they inform their neighbours or get someone to look after their houses to avoid housebreaking and theft,” said Munyayi.
“To those who will be sharing stokvel money they should not carry money around to share from the houses, rather, they must obtain banking account details from the members and transfer the money into their accounts while inside the banks, to avoid robberies.
“This is because they will never know who has information about them sharing the money. Some of their members could be involved.”
The community should report any criminal activities if they suspect any crimes taking place within their environment or if they see any suspicious-looking people.
