The Ichikowitz Family Foundation (IFF) launched the #IamConstitution Campaign in 2016 as a nationwide awareness and educational drive in commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of South Africa’s first democratic constitution. The campaign encourages its citizens to embrace and celebrate one of the greatest achievements of South Africa’s young democracy by reading, embracing and choosing to live by the Constitution.
“As an awareness-raising campaign it exceeded our objectives,” said Mandy Jacobson, director of the Ichikowitz Family Foundation. “The campaign initiated innovative art forms, such as beatboxing, fine art, sand sculptors, graffiti and mural walls, drama performances, heritage tours as well as an award-winning TV series to reach the widest possible audience.”
The year-long campaign involved a series of highly successful events from student debates, a road trip across the country, festivals and art activations that have touched the lives of tens of millions of South Africans.
This has been achieved through an array of partnerships with heritage stakeholders, creative arts youth programmes and independent artists as well as the participation of distinguished thought leaders and icons of our country’s democratic transition.
