Biker in stable condition after collision on Jan Smuts Avenue

The driver of a motorcycle escaped with his life after being involved in a collision with a light motor vehicle during normal traffic flow at the busy intersection of Bompas Road and Jan Smuts Avenue in Craighall Park.

The accident occurred at around 10:45 on 22 February after the driver of the vehicle tried to evade another vehicle, according to eyewitness accounts at the scene. One eyewitness said he noticed the driver of the motorbike weaving in and out of traffic prior to the collision.

“I was behind the guy that was hit. He was coming down, weaving in and out of traffic, and the lady [driver] of the car tried to avoid a car that was coming at her,” said the witness, who wanted to remain anonymous.

Another witness, who also wanted to remain anonymous, added, “The driver of the motorbike was changing lanes and [almost] immediately hit the bumper of the car and then lost control.”

Speaking to the Rosebank Killarney Gazette, Netcare 911 spokesperson, Nick Dollman, however, said the driver of the motorcycle – a 34-year-old man – sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene before being transported to the hospital.”

“Analgesic medication was administered to manage his pain,” said Dollman. “He was treated for suspected fractures but is in a stable condition before being transported by ambulance to hospital for further assessments and care.”

The driver of the vehicle was visibly shaken and would not give comment at the time of publication.
