Ex-policeman arrested for stealing a vehicle

JOHANNESBURG – The car was reported stolen in KwaZulu-Natal.

 

A former police officer was arrested by officers from the Johannesburg Flying Squad on 7 May for an alleged stolen motor vehicle.

The officer, who was previously attached to one of Joburg’s police stations, was arrested at the corner of Bree and Ntemi Piliso streets in Newtown.

Sergeant Desmond Subramoney, a spokesperson for the Johannesburg Flying Squad, said the car was reported stolen in KwaZulu-Natal.

“Our officers reacted to a tracker alert of a white Hyundai ix35 SUV, which was reported stolen at Montclair Police Station in the KwaZulu-Natal province,” said Subramoney.

“The members spotted the vehicle parked at the corner of Bree and Ntemi Piliso streets with one occupant sitting in the driver’s seat. The police officers pounced on the vehicle and arrested the suspect.”

Upon further investigation, Subramoney said it was discovered that the suspect was a former police officer. He said the former policeman was discharged from the police service facing murder charges.

The stolen white Hyundai was confiscated and the 25-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

“He is facing charges of being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle.”
