Orchards Clinic construction set to finish in February next year
ORANGE GROVE – Construction work has been resumed at The Orchards Clinic and is expected to be finished early next year.
The Orchards Clinic’s construction is back on track and is expected to be completed by February next year.
The construction of the clinic was suspended in March last year due to a structural problem in its infrastructure. Following an investigation and consulting a specialist engineer, the solution developed will strengthen certain elements in the clinic that have been identified as poorly designed.
Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) Susan Monyai said that the construction is going well and within budget. She added, “We experienced some delays in the construction programme as a result of rains in April this year but we are back on track with the remedial works which will be completed end September 2018.”
With regards to the engineer that was fired by the Johannesburg Development Agency, Monyai said, “The JDA has started a claim process against the Engineer’s Professional Indemnity cover and the process is currently unfolding.”
She said that the clinic is expected to be completed by February 2019.
The clinic is a R40-million state-of-the-art health centre which forms part of the City’s Corridors of Freedom project, with the intent of providing improved health care services to residents in Orange Grove and surrounding areas. The clinic, located along Louis Botha Avenue, has been under construction since 2015.
