BSI players brave heat in GDPL practice session at Sandringham High

Young footballers played different games to work on their passing and receiving skills.

Balderstone Sports Institute (BSI) Gauteng Developmental Promotional League (GDPL) players braved the heat at Sandringham High School’s sports grounds recently for a practice session.

The players grouped themselves into two groups and worked on passing and receiving different variations of passes.

Head coach Sibusiso Ntsinde said, “On Fridays, the GDPL focuses on deliberate training to hone their tactical skills and ensure they are executing at a higher level. In terms of my specific team, we are still in pre-season and have played a couple of friendly games to get exposed to higher-level games.”

Ntsinde noted that although there were positives in the practice session, as a coach, he always aims for improved performances from the players.

“There were instances where the players switched off from the game in terms of how they should receive the ball, but if I were to rate the game, it was 6/10, which was not bad, but we try to push them to that level where they can at least operate at 8/10,” he said.

A new BSI player, Thubelihle Nhlapo, said his year at the football academy had been important for his developmental stage.

“My goal is to perfect my basic skills while at this development stage, and an improvement I have made so far is to read and analyse the game more accurately, which enables me to play better.”
