UPDATE: A six-month-old child was treated for smoke inhalation after a Johannesburg fire
BRAAMFONTEIN – No fatalities were reported and the police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
A six-month-old child was treated for smoke inhalation following a devastating fire at a building in Johannesburg on 16 August.
The incident took place in Braamfontein on the corner of Rissik and De Villiers streets and the cause of the fire still remains a mystery.
Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) responded to the incident and reported that there were no fatalities.
According to Nana Radebe, spokesperson for Johannesburg EMS, the child was rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment. “There were no severe fatalities, only a six-month-old child who was treated for smoke inhalation and rushed to the hospital for further assessment.
“The cause of the fire could not be determined because of the damage and only the first floor of the building was affected. Part of the building houses a church as well.”
Johannesburg Emergency Management Services reported earlier that all occupants were helped to safety and the police are still investigating the incident.
