Buya Mthetho yields amazing results
JOHANNESBURG – Authorities teamed up for a successful Buya Mthetho operation.
The police, Metro police and City of Johannesburg arrested 60 suspects around Johannesburg in operation Buya Mthetho.
Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central police, Captain Xoli Mbele said that the joint operation was run between 16 and 17 August around Mondeor, Booysens, Moffatview, Langlaagte, Fairlands, Sophiatown, Brixton and the Johannesburg Central area.
He added that 60 suspects were arrested for various offences, 45 vehicles were given fines, three cars were impounded for being unroadworthy and R9 millions worth of fake clothing was confiscated.
Mbele said, “Among the suspects who were arrested during the operation, five suspects were arrested for car hijacking, two for theft of a motor vehicle, one for possession of an unlicensed firearm, five for possession of copper and one for rape.”
The rest of the suspects were arrested for committing other crimes ranging from armed robbery and theft to possession of drugs and housebreaking.
The suspects will be appearing at various courts in the Johannesburg area.
