Fisher warns of excavation work along Louis Botha Avenue

ATHOL – The traffic congestion is due to the excavation, replacement of the valve and resurfacing of the road.

Motorists driving along Louis Botha Avenue can expect slow traffic and congestion due to construction work currently taking place on the road.

This according to Ward 74 councillor David Fisher who is urging motorists to apply caution when driving along that arterial road. He said that the congestion, on the intersection of Louis Botha Avenue and Athol Street, is due to Joburg Water’s contractors repairing a leaking water valve. He continued that the contractors are doing excavation work to replace a valve and also backfilling and resurfacing the road. “The project has started and it is expected to be completed soon.

“Because of the other Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) construction in the area, we already have traffic challenges at this intersection. We ask road users, especially drivers, to exercise caution and patience during the disruption, more so because of the schools in the area.”

This intersection is used by many children to go to and from school and motorists are urged to exercise caution, he added.

According to the councillor, there will be short periods where there will be no water when the actual valve is removed and replaced. “Joburg Water has told me that this will be kept to a minimum and if possible they will let me know so that I can put it on the community groups.”
