Boot camp gives back

A well-known exercise programme took on the Power Charity Challenge to raise R47 000 for the Prince Alice Adoption Home in Westcliff.

Adventure Boot Camp is an outdoor fitness programme catering to women all over South Africa. The Illovo branch of Adventure Boot Camp took on the challenge in July and August this year.

Owner and trainer at the Norwood and Illovo branches Michelle Rozowsky said, “This is a gruelling challenge that I put together each year during July and August. The purpose is two-fold. The first gives campers a purpose to stay motivated during the colder winter months, and second is to create a platform to give back because as a team we can raise bigger amounts that individuals would not be able to achieve on their own.”

She added, “I put together a 45-minute challenge consisting of 20 different exercises which they need to complete within the time limit. The ladies have four weeks to train for this at camp and they go out and get sponsors to back them to complete it at the end of the four weeks. The first exercise consists of a 1km run followed by 40 to 50 reps of 19 other tough power exercises.”

The boot camp handed over money raised to the Princess Alice Adoption Home on 15 August. Rozowsky said, “Organisations such as Princess Alice are in such great need for funds. These organisations do such amazing work, in this case, to give the little ones a fair chance in life.

“And with many of the other organisations that we have helped in the past, the funds raised have been put to good use to empower destitute women to be educated and to teach them different skills to help them find employment and get back on their feet.”
