People who are caught buying stolen goods will be arrested and prosecuted together with those who are selling the goods.
This according to Johannesburg Flying Squad after arresting a number of alleged criminals for various offences.
Spokesperson Sergeant Desmond Subramoney said 24 suspects were arrested in one week and five vehicles, as well as three unlicensed firearms were recovered.
“During our routine patrol, we arrested suspects for possession of housebreaking implements, reckless and negligent driving, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“We also arrested suspects for possession of stolen motor vehicles, possession of drugs and we recovered two hijacked motor vehicles and three stolen vehicles as well. We also confiscated three unlicensed firearms including a 9mm Norinco pistol, a 9mm Arcus pistol and a Rossi revolver.”
Subramoney said police are determined to work with the community in their quest stamp out crime and urges the community to cooperate, especially when it comes to stolen goods. “It is in this regard that we encourage members of the community to first check with the police when second-hand goods or vehicles are sold to them so that inquiries can be made.
“Our police stations can always help with information and give guidance when buying second-hand goods…let us all do the right thing to avoid being victims.”
All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in different magistrates’ courts facing different charges.
