Police investigate murder case after man’s body found at City’s New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert

JOBURG – The City of Joburg appeals for anyone with information to come forward.

The SA Police Service (SAPS) is investigating a case of murder after the body of a man, aged between 25 and 30, was discovered at around 12.54am on 1 January at the City’s New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert.

A statement issued by the City of Joburg read, “The City of Joburg and its stakeholders including SA Police Service (SAPS), private security, Metro police, disaster management and Emergency Management Services learned with shock of an incident that happened at the New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert just after midnight.”

The City’s statement further stated that a private medical company confirmed that the man has lost his life. The City said the next of kin for the deceased had not been identified yet.

“All stakeholders confirmed that all necessary safety measures were fully implemented during the event. Incidents like this are unfortunate and regrettable,” read the City’s statement.

“The South African Police Service is investigating a case of murder.

“We are appealing to anyone with information to come forward by calling the Johannesburg Central on 011 497 7381 or the SAPS emergency number 0800 10111.”
