Mndebele tops at prestigious Miss Gauteng pageant
NEWTOWN – I am part of a legacy of women who want to challenge the status quo – Mndebele.
A 20-year-old Braamfontein resident has been crowned Miss Gauteng Exclusive 2018 Royal Crowning Finale at Sci Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown.
The prestigious grand finale, which took place on 24 November, was co-hosted by radio presenter and hip-hop web show creator, Creatives Corner Ashley Chweneemang alongside Miss Heritage SA Ambassador and Top 20 Miss Gauteng Exclusive 2017 Finalist, Whitney Jade Harrison in what proved to be a spectacular production. The ladies were set to impress the judging panel which included, menswear designer Monsieur Adams, model and public speaker Rorisang Moeketsi and SiliconBurg founder and chairman Maurice Lau.
The winner, Nondumiso Mndebele, walked away with exciting prizes from the Miss Gauteng Exclusive official sponsors including a R20 000 cash prize. She also received a bursary to complete the Activate Leadership Change Drivers Programme and Boot Camp worth R40 000.
Mndebele will now become a Gauteng ambassador as well as an ambassador for the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre and she will become a face of Refresh Health and Beauty Spa among others.
The event has changed this young woman’s life and she said that her ‘childhood dreams have become a reality’. “Every step I took at the crowning signified breaking down barriers, the power of possibilities and celebration of resilience.
“I am part of a legacy of women who want to challenge the status quo. I look forward to serving, learning and growing together.”
Kagiso Selele, co-founder of the pageant said, “Our programs core focus is women’s individual growth, community and social involvement and fostering goodwill ambassadors for the greater Gauteng.”
Zinzi Booi, from Randburg, was crowned first princess, and Kaytlin Mahappy from Eldorado Park second princess.
According to the organisers, this #pageantwithapurpose, now in its second year running, mentored the top 25 finalists selected from 100 young ladies across the province. The finalists were mentored to be psychologically, socially and economically empowered by providing them with opportunities to transform local communities within Gauteng.
