Nomuzi Mabena upsets the masses with new campaign
JOBURG – Nomuzi Mabena receives backlash for driving campaign.
On Friday morning, 11 January, rapper and presenter Nomuzi Mabena made the headlines following a viral video that showed Mabena being involved in a car crash during an Instagram live stream.
It was speculated that the video was staged and part of an awareness campaign by the Department of Transport to curtail the use of phones while driving. However, it has been discovered that the video was, in fact, part of a partnership between the rapper, Volkswagen and Drive Dry – a partnership that seeks to curtail drunk and reckless driving.
The entertainer took to Twitter to announce the partnership following a prolonged silence that had people on their toes and confused about her condition and whereabouts.
“I partnered with Volkswagen and Drive Dry to make a change in 2019. We don’t want to see another year where thousands of lives are lost on our roads because of drinking and driving,” Mabena said.
According to Volkswagen, the video was created to spark a dialogue between South Africans on how people play a role in condoning and responding to those who choose to drink and drive.
“We hope to inspire as many drivers as possible to make this change,”
The rapper has since urged the public to take the pledge to avoid drunk driving and drive responsibly, however, the campaign has received some backlash from a seemingly upset audience.

In 2010 I lost 5 family members in a car crash. I don’t find this funny. Maybe I’m just triggered.

If its a campaign, its one triggering and violent AF campaign. That kinda stuff should be banned. There are many ways of educating the nation. Some of us are left here shook and worried. #Nomuzi
