Victim pepper sprays burglar

A housebreaker who was pepper sprayed by a victim, disenabling him, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

Lucky Gumede (38) admitted to the offence, committed with the intention to steal from the victim’s room in Kew at about 8am on 4 January.

The victim’s brother heard a noise coming from his room and kicked open the door thinking it was from a falling roof. Instead, he found the accused and victim in a confrontation.

The two restrained the accused after one of them pepper sprayed him in the eyes.
