Slip road on George Avenue needs urgent resurfacing
SANDRINGHAM – JRA stated that they are aware of the number of potholes on the city's roads.
A slip road between Anne and Orange streets on George Avenue is in a dire state which has since made it difficult for residents to commute.
According to the manager of JRA Roads Resurfacing Department, Chris Mayekiso, the Joburg Road Agency (JRA) is aware of the state of the road in question and according to the Roads Resurfacing Department, the resurfacing of the road in question has been scheduled for the first quarter of the new financial year.
The Joburg Road Agency’s managing director, Goodwill Mbatha stated that some of the roads were damaged by potholes that needed urgent attention as they were aware of the number of potholes on the city’s roads. “A substantial number of roads have deteriorated to a level that reconstruction has become necessary to hold the road.
“The recent heavy downpours accelerated the formation of potholes in areas where the road surface has aged. To effectively repair the potholes the road surface must be dry. The process of road surfacing drying typically takes approximately three days after the last downpour.”
Mbatha said that they will repair the potholes as soon as the road surface is dry, and that they will continue to monitor the areas and make areas where there are potholes safe.
He concluded that Joburg Road Agency endeavours to address roads related maintenance issues as effectively as possible. “The safety of road users is JRA’s priority.”
