Sizwe Housing Project still halted until new traffic assessment done
SANDRINGHAM – The project is earmarked to be built on the old grave site near the Sandringham Police Station, and many residents in the nearby suburbs have rejected it.
The controversial Sizwe Housing Project in Sandringham has been put on hold until a new traffic assessment study is done.
This was confirmed on 5 January by Ward 81 councillor Irene Rugheimer.
“This is because the initial traffic assessment study was done about six years ago and now there have been other developments which have emanated in the process,” she said.
“The work of the tribunal has been done and the project will no longer go ahead until the new study is done and complete. Residents, including those who objected to the project, have been made aware of the halting of the project.”
The project is earmarked to be built on the old grave site near the Sandringham Police Station, and many residents in the nearby suburbs have rejected it. They are concerned that it would increase the traffic volume in the area, and others claim it’s their ancestral graves.
As soon as a new traffic assessment study is done, the tribunal will then go back to the community and inform them about it, added Rugheimer.
