Muzi finally releases highly anticipated We Are Growing rework

JOBURG – Muzi bridges the gap between new and older generations with his We Are Growing rework.

A few weeks ago, Muzi and streaming service, Deezer hosted an electrifying one-man live show in Maboneng – a night that saw Muzi preview his latest single, We are Growing.

Released today, 15 February, the single is a rework of Margaret Singana’s hit single from the 80s, Shaka Zulu TV series. The single does not only serve as a display of Muzi’s musical prowess but an archive of would-be forgotten stories and classics positioning the young muso as a bridge between the new and older generation of musicians and fans.

“I played a gig once, with some golden oldies of SA music and the people there, even though they were loving the tune, felt super disconnected from them. But the American-sounding stuff other DJs were playing was going down a treat. Made me think have we as Africans moved on too quickly?” Muzi said.

The future hit-single is released under We The Bundu and features all new instrumentation and vocals after Muzi got permission from the original publishers and master rights owners to re-do the track.

“I think the retelling of stories is very important, whether that’s old folktales we heard as kids or old music. The gap is huge but as an artist I definitely want to be part of the group of people that tried to somehow bridge that gap,” Muzi said.
