Fairmount nail tech takes nail artistry to another level
FAIRMOUNT– Seasoned nail technician, Alina Fox believes there's more to being just a normal nail technician.
A Ukraine-born nail salon owner has taken being a nail technician to another level.
Alina Fox, who owns a nail salon in Genesis Shopping Centre, Fairmount, has won various awards for her nail art at international competitions.
“My journey began with me painting nails with polish and markers on the streets of Ukraine. After doing this for two years I was then offered a job in a salon and while being there, learnt to improve my skill as a professional nail technician.”
Fox said she has been a nail technician for 12 years and after years of using her house as her salon, she opened finally opened a salon last year August at the shopping centre.

She came to the country with a lot of knowledge and a desire to be the best as realised that she truly loved art, especially nail art as she spent countless hours honing her skill. “I studied as much as I could to become better and better and practised my chosen path in every spare moment.
“What I also realised is that the technology used here is a bit behind from what I am used to which has led to people asking me how I do certain nail art and how to create it. It all has to do with the resources as I believe we all can be way better in nail art,” Fox said.

Fox explained that she started entering nail competitions because people kept asking her why she wasn’t entering them. “I was very unsure if I was at a level of being good but in 2015 I took the plunge and entered the South African Nail Contest and with limited resources and equipment it seemed like a challenge. However, it turned out that I took first place. By 2016 I had gained so much confidence and would again take first prize even with tough competition.”
With all her wins, Fox was inspired to start her own brand in 2016 and began competing in international competitions. As of the beginning of this year, Fox has taken 96 first places all around the world.
“My belief is that it all boils down to confidence, passion and the desire to be great that can make anyone a success. Believe it and persist, never give up, don’t let hurdles stop you. Keep pushing yourself and you too can achieve your dreams!”
