Two men are held by the Jeppe police after they were found in a possession of dagga worth about R70 000 in street value in Bez Valley, east of Johannesburg.
The men, aged 52 and 23, were arrested by the Organised and Narcotic Crime Unit while patrolling in the area on 21 February on the corner of 3rd Street and North Avenue.
Captain Richards Munyayi, the spokesperson for the police, said the patrolling members saw a black Toyota Corolla with two occupants and they stopped the car. Upon searching the car, they found a (suspicious) packet wrapped in a plastic bag under the driver’s seat.
“The police identified the contents of the parcel to be dagga and the two men pointed at each other when asked who it belonged to,” said Munyayi.
“They then asked where they reside and the men took them [police] to a nearby house where more dagga hidden in one of the rooms, was recovered. Weighing about 19.4 kg with an estimation R70 000 street value, the dagga was confiscated and the suspects, all foreign nationals, were detained at the Jeppe Saps cells.”
They face charges of possession of dagga and Munyayi said they will appear soon in a Johannesburg court.
An investigation still continues.
