Metro police traffic officer is robbed while in full uniform
JOHANNESBURG – A 26-year-old male was arrested in the Johannesburg CBD yesterday (10 March) after trying to rob a female traffic warden of the Johannesburg Metro Department (JMPD).
A Metro police officer was robbed of her cell phone while walking in full uniform in the Johannesburg CBD on 10 March.
The officer chased the suspect and he was arrested on the corner of Plein and Klein streets. As she walked the suspect to a nearby mobile police trailer, a woman was seen cutting the straps of another woman’s handbag with a razor blade in an apparent attempt to steal the woman’s purse inside the bag.
“The traffic warden left the first suspect at the mobile police trailer and went for the female suspect whom she also arrested, and then the warden called for backup,” read a police statement.
Both suspects were charged at the Johannesburg Central Police Station. The female suspect tried to bribe the officer with R1 563, which led to her being charged for bribery.
