Residents invited to launch new Sector 3 Crime Forum
ORCHARDS – According to the forum's public relations officer, those elected will work directly with the forum as well as the local police.
Johannesburg north-eastern suburbs residents in the Sector 3 police precinct are invited to a launch of a new crime forum where a new executive committee will be elected.
The launch, is organised by Norwood Community Policing Forum, will be held at the St Luke’s Church in Orchards on 27 March and according to the organisers, all residents are welcome.
The forum’s public relations officer, Mbali Langeni, said they expect all residents to participate. She added that residents, including business owners, will elect people from their areas to represent them as part of the executive committee.
Langeni said they want to revive crime forums as there has not been any in areas including Orchards, Norwood, Oaklands, Cheltondale, The Gardens and Maryvale in years.
She said those elected will work directly with the forum as well as the local police. “Those who will be elected will serve as eyes and ears in their areas and help the police and CPF by reporting crime in their suburbs.”
“They will also work on various crime prevention campaigns including drugs and women and child abuse campaigns in their suburbs. For one to be elected one need to be at the launch so that they can go through a vetting process by the police.”
She concluded that those who wish to be elected need to need to bring their identity books with them. They also need to be willing, active and be prepared to help fight crime working with the police.
Details: Norwood Police Station 011 483 4600.
