Senior NCPF member’s future looks bleak
ORANGE GROVE – The outcome of the police investigation and the court will determine his future.
The future looks bleak for a senior Norwood Community Policing Forum (NCPF) committee member who was arrested on 14 March in Orange Grove.
The member, who cannot be named yet due to protocol, was arrested after allegedly assaulting two Hospice Wits’ second-hand shop staff. The details still remain sketchy, however, he was released on an R800 bail following his arrest as reported online in the article Norwood CPF member granted R800 bail.
NCPF senior member, Mbali Langeni, who is also a public relations officer for the forum, confirmed the arrest but could not share more details on the matter. Following the news of the arrest, Langeni said the committee will gather to discuss the matter.
When contacted on 26 March, Langeni said, “The meeting could not sit because some of our members are away travelling but we hope to meet soon and the matter will still be part of the agenda.
“We will discuss the matter, however, the decision about the member’s future will only be determined by the outcome of the police investigation. We will inform the public as soon as that decision has been made.”
The suspect appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on 15 March facing charges of common assault and trespassing.
Johannesburg East Cluster spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyayi, said the suspect is expected back in court on 16 April. “The suspect will appear again at the same court to face the same charges.”
